Coast Guard Veteran James Martin Endorsed by Vice President Kamala D. Harris in Race for Congress
HOBE SOUND – Today, Vice President Kamala D. Harris endorsed James Martin's campaign in Florida's 21st Congressional District.
"I am proud to endorse James Martin for Congress. James is a patriot, a distinguished Coast Guard veteran, and a fighter for the people of Florida's Treasure Coast. At the White House, he showed strong judgement and a devotion to our country. He is focused on making life better for working people, and he will be ready to deliver on Day One," said Vice President Kamala D. Harris.
James served as Chief of Staff for National Security Affairs and the Executive Secretary of the Office of the Vice President during the Biden-Harris administration.
"I am honored that Vice President Kamala Harris has endorsed my campaign for Congress and our movement to bring real leadership to the Treasure Coast and this great country," said Martin.
"For nearly four years, I had a front-row seat as she fought for the American people—asking hard questions and always looking out for the 'little guy' in policy discussions. I'm running to bring that same leadership to the halls of Congress."
James Martin is a Democratic candidate in Florida's 21st Congressional District, which includes all of St. Lucie, Martin, and Northern Palm Beach Counties.
In addition to Vice President Harris, James has earned endorsements from Veterans for Responsible Leadership, the Democratic Hispanic Caucus of Florida, the Democratic Environmental Caucus of Florida, Palm Beach County Tax Collector Anne Gannon, State Representative Debra Tendrich, and a host of respected local elected leaders. The primary is on August 18.
About James Martin
The son of a small business owner and public school teacher, James Martin is rooted in working class values that define the Treasure Coast. A former lieutenant commander, Martin spent nearly a decade on active-duty in the U.S. Coast Guard, commanding two cutters in Fort Pierce and leading successful missions against drug trafficking, human smuggling, and transnational criminal networks. He also served as the second in command of a Coast Guard cutter deployed to Bahrain. Over his career his Coast Guard teams seized over 200 tons of narcotics worth $3.5 billion, bringing hundreds of traffickers to justice.
Most recently, Martin served as Chief of Staff for National Security Affairs and Executive Secretary of the Office of the Vice President, where he worked across two administrations, leading teams of national security professionals from across the U.S. government and providing high-level counsel on defense and homeland security issues.
James holds a commission as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve and is a proud life member of the Society of the Cincinnati, the nation's oldest patriotic organization composed of direct descendants of Continental Army and Navy officers who served in the American War for Independence. James carries forward a deep legacy of defending freedom and putting country before self. Now he's continuing his commitment to public service in Congress, where he will work on behalf of all Florida families with the same character and dedication he brought to his military career.
