Coast Guard Veteran James Martin Announces Run for Florida’s 21st Congressional District
Hobe Sound, FL – Today, James Martin, a fourth generation Floridian, U.S. Coast Guard veteran, and national security expert, announced his campaign for the United States House of Representatives in Florida’s 21st Congressional District. With deep roots in Martin County and a distinguished record of military service, Martin is challenging incumbent Brian Mast, citing a failure to deliver for Florida families on the most pressing issues of the day.
“Our leaders in Washington like Brian Mast are out of touch,” said Martin, “Florida families are working harder than ever for less and less. I deployed to combat zones, patrolled drug trafficking lanes, and protected Florida’s maritime border. I didn’t do it for a party, or one President, I did it for the country I swore an oath to serve. I’m ready to bring that same dedication to Washington to fight for a better future for Floridians.”
With proven leadership and a mission focused mindset that puts country over party, Martin is running for Congress to lower the cost of living, fix the Treasure Coast’s water quality crisis and strengthen the economy for everyone, no matter their politics.

About James Martin
The son of a small business owner and public school teacher, James Martin is rooted in working class values that define the Treasure Coast. A former lieutenant commander, Martin spent nearly a decade on active-duty in the U.S. Coast Guard, commanding two cutters in Fort Pierce and leading successful missions against drug trafficking, human smuggling, and transnational criminal networks. He also served as the second in command of a Coast Guard cutter deployed to Bahrain. Over his career his Coast Guard teams seized over 200 tons of narcotics worth $3.5 billion, bringing hundreds of traffickers to justice.
Most recently, Martin served as Chief of Staff for National Security Affairs and Executive Secretary of the Office of the Vice President, where he worked across two administrations, leading teams of national security professionals from across the U.S. government and providing high-level counsel on defense and homeland security issues.
James holds a commission as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve and is a proud life member of the Society of the Cincinnati, the nation’s oldest patriotic organization composed of direct descendants of Continental Army and Navy officers who served in the American War for Independence.
James carries forward a deep legacy of defending freedom and putting country before self. Now he’s continuing his commitment to public service in Congress, where he will work on behalf of all Florida families with the same character and dedication he brought to his military career.
